'BEETLEJUICE BEETLEJUICE'

Rated PG-13 for violent content, macabre and bloody images, strong language, some suggestive material and brief drug use.

What it’s about: Thirty-six years after the bio-exorcist and the Deetz family charmed audiences, Beetlejuice and Lydia are back to close some doors and settle some scores.

The kid attractor factor: Goth-curious kids and tweens might be interested in this horror-lite comedy.

Good lessons/bad lessons: Be careful what demons you unleash. Moms are pretty cool even when you don't think they are.

Violence: Images of dead bodies implying violent deaths (shark bites, impaling, dismembering, stabbing). Some perilous situations and giant sandworm attacks.

Language: Some strong language.

Sex: References to sex.

Drugs: Lydia Deetz has a dependency on pills.

Parents’ advisory: Fine for older kids and teens.

'REBEL RIDGE'

No MPA rating, but consider it R for violence, language and drug references.

What it’s about: A man seeks revenge on a corrupt police department after his cash is seized in a traffic stop.

The kid attractor factor: This is an adult drama, not much appeal for kids.

Good lessons/bad lessons: Some of the most insidious corruption is the most banal.

Violence: Violence throughout, including shooting, explosions, stabbing, hand-to-hand combat, etc.

Language: Swearing throughout.

Sex: None

Drugs: References to drug trafficking.

Parents’ advisory: Too violence for kids, OK for teens.
