'RED ONE'

Rated PG-13 (for action, some violence, and language)

What it’s about: Santa Claus is kidnapped right before Christmas, so his head of security and a hacker go looking for him among mythical beasts and beings.

The kid attractor factor: This sort of has a kiddie appeal with the holiday cheer and monsters and creatures, but it also feels aimed at an adult audience. It's confusing who this movie is for.

Good lessons/bad lessons: Try being nice for once!

Violence: Some violent fights and brawls, perilous action sequences.

Language: Some swearing.

Sex: Suggestive references.

Drugs: None

Parents’ advisory: This is fine for older kids but too violent for younger ones.

'GLADIATOR II'

Rated R for strong bloody violence.

What it’s about: This sequel to the beloved 2000 film follows the son of Lucilla, Lucius, as he makes his way back to Rome as an enslaved gladiator.

The kid attractor factor: Not much attraction for kids in this bloody sword and sandal epic, maybe for teens.

Good lessons/bad lessons: Strength and honor are words to live by. The goal is always to lay down swords and build a peaceful society.

Violence: Extreme bloody violence, sword-fighting, brawling, death by arrows, baboon fighting, etc.

Language: None

Sex: None

Drugs: Ancient debauchery but no drugs.

Parents’ advisory: Too violent for kids. OK for teens.
