Has anyone ever seen a soul?

on

From the writings of the Rev. Billy Graham

Q: The entertainment industry uses a lot of religious words to catch people’s attention but the films, animations, songs, awards, and so on have nothing to do with religion: SoulCycle, Soul Music, etc. The word “soul” has fascinated audiences around the world. Is it because no one can really describe what a soul is? Has anyone ever seen a soul? – S.D.

A: Go back to the very beginning and discover the human soul. Adam and Eve were parentless. Their heritage was directly from God’s perfect creation, and He gave them each a soul. He made the soul for a purpose – to experience the joy of a relationship with God that would last forever. The Bible tells us, “And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul” (Genesis 2:7, KJV).

Notice it doesn’t say that man became a body or man became a brain. Man certainly was created with both, but he was not a living creature until God breathed into him the breath of life, making him a living soul.

The soul is the real you, the real me. “There is a spirit in man, and the breath of the Almighty gives him understanding” (Job 32:8, NKJV).

The body is the house, the soul is the tenant, and every soul is precious to God. Jesus said that one soul is worth more than the whole world (see Matthew 16:26).

God is the soul’s Creator, and He holds in His hand “the breath of all mankind” (Job 12:10, NKJV). Jesus is the soul’s Savior. And the Spirit of God is the soul’s guiding light. “The Spirit of truth … will guide you” (John 16:13). There is no greater proof of the existence of a moral law and the Lawgiver than this little light of the soul. It is God’s voice to the inner man.
