ELMONT, N.Y. — This Red Wings victory was all about goaltender Alex Lyon.

The Wings completed a sweep of the two-game road trip Tuesday with a 1-0 victory over the New York Islanders.

Patrick Kane scored his first goal in the first period and it proved to be enough.

But it was Lyon who was the difference.

Lyon stopped 29 shots — the Islanders outshot the Wings 29-10 — and made plenty of saves that will be replayed on the nightly highlight shows.

Some of Lyon's best work was in the second period, with the Wings clinging to a one-goal lead.

Lyon slid across the crease to deny Islanders sharpshooter Mathew Barzal between power plays. Then on the second man-advantage, Lyon was quick to stop Anders Lee just outside the crease.

Lyon stood tall in the final minute of the first period, turning aside an Islanders' flurry.

Incidentally, it was also Lyon who starred in Saturday's victory in Nashville, making an early run to earn the bulk of playing time in the Wings' goaltending carousel.

The victory evened the Wings at 3-3-0 for the season, with a home game Thursday against New Jersey.

The Islanders outshot the Wings 8-2 in the first period, but the Wings made their meager total count.

Kane scored on the Wings' first shot of the period at 8:54, set up by Vladimir Tarasenko. Kane found open ice near the dot and Tarasenko, controlling the puck near the end board, fed Kane for a quick one-timer past goaltender Ilya Sorokin.

The Wings didn't convert on their one power-play attempt, but did stop three Islanders power plays thanks mainly to Lyon.
