KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Another week, another player obtained through a trade for the undefeated Kansas City Chiefs.

The Chiefs (7-0) have acquired outside linebacker Joshua Uche, a pass rushing specialist, from the New England Patriots, Andy Reid said on Monday.

“That will be a nice addition,” Reid said.

The news was first reported by NFL.com and NFL Network reporters Mike Garafolo and Ian Rapoport.

The Chiefs traded a sixth-round pick in 2026 for Uche. To make room for Uche, the Chiefs have placed tight end Jody Fortson on injured reserve. Fortson suffered a knee injury in Sunday’s victory at the Las Vegas Raiders.

Uche didn’t play in the Patriots’ victory over the New York Jets on Sunday, leading to speculation that he was on the trading block. “It was just a healthy scratch,” Patriots coach Jerod Mayo said after the game

Uche, 26, is a pass rushing specialist who was a second-round draft pick by the Patriots in 2020. His best season came in 2022, when he recorded 11 1/2 sacks and two forced fumbles.

In seven games this season, Uche has two sacks and 13 tackles. He has started four times in 58 career games and played about 35% of the defensive snaps in his career.

The Chiefs are down one of their defensive ends, Mike Danna, who suffered a pectoral injury and hasn’t played since the victory over the New Orleans Saints in Week 5.

George Karlaftis, Felix Anudike-Uzomah and Malik Herring rotated at defensive end in Sunday’s 27-20 victory at the Las Vegas Raiders.

Last week, the Chiefs acquired wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins from the Tennessee Titans. Hopkins played 23 snaps on Sunday and caught two passes for 29 yards.
