NEW YORK — After not practicing for “personal” reasons on Wednesday and Thursday, Jets wide receiver Mike Williams participated for the first time since the team acquired Davante Adams in a trade with the Raiders.

Williams was a full participant on Friday, and he will play on Sunday Night Football against the Steelers, according to Jets coach Jeff Ulbrich.

“I came here for a reason, so I’m here,” Williams said after Friday’s practice. “I’m here so I’m excited for this weekend ... you know, preparation tomorrow, play Sunday night.”

Williams missed Wednesday’s walkthrough practice. He was on the field Thursday but was seen working in the rehab area during the media portion of Jets practice.

Williams declined to tell reporters why he didn’t practice on Wednesday and Thursday. He was listed on the Jets’ injury report as personal and not injury-related.

“It’s stuff I’d rather not speak about,” Williams said.

There has been widespread speculation that the Jets could trade Williams after acquiring Adams. After the Jets’ loss to the Bills on Monday night, quarterback Aaron Rodgers criticized Williams for running the wrong route on the interception by cornerback Taron Johnson, which helped Buffalo wrap up the victory.

After the Adams trade was complete, Rodgers downplayed his comments during his weekly appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show.”

“When I’ve made mistakes, ‘I’ve got to play better, make that throw,’ that’s the standard for everyone,” Rodgers said. “There were a lot of mistakes throughout the night, but if you’re looking at just that play, that’s what the questions were. ‘What happened on that play?’

“Well, it was two verticals on the right side. Mike needed to get to the red line, which would’ve been a big gain, so I wasn’t calling Mike out for anything other than his responsibility in the details of that play. I have a lot of love and respect for Mike. He’s done some nice things for us, but in that play, he wasn’t in the right spot.

Williams said he wasn’t upset with Rodgers’ criticism.

“We all watch film, we all go through it and make the corrections,” Williams said. “So let’s go play football.”

Williams signed a one-year contract with the Jets in March, hoping to improve the team’s receiving corps. However, he has yet to have the production many expected.

In six games, Williams has just 10 catches for 145 yards. After tearing his ACL three games into the 2023 season when he was with the Chargers, Williams was put on the PUP [physically unable to perform] list to begin training camp. After he was activated in August, the Jets decided to put Williams on a snap count to begin this season.

Following Adams’ trade, the Chargers, Steelers, and Saints reportedly contacted the Jets about acquiring Williams, according to The Athletic. But Ulbrich believes there are enough footballs around to keep all of the Jets’ receivers happy.

“The entire receiver room was so receptive to the addition of Davante [Adams], which was awesome and then something I have been just blown away with,” Ulbrich said. “We all know the player that Davante is, but to get him in the building and start to get to know this man, he is just selfless, he is a great teammate, hard worker, he is not only going to help us between the white lines, but from a culture standpoint in the locker room, he has been an amazing, amazing addition.

“That wide receiver room has absolutely brought him in.”

Injury report

The Jets’ secondary could be very shorthanded in Sunday’s game against the Steelers. Jets cornerback Michael Carter II (back) will miss his second consecutive game after injuring his back during the team’s loss to the Vikings in Week 5.

Cornerback D.J. Reed (groin) did not practice this week and is listed as questionable. Ulbrich said Reed will be a game-time decision.

Tight end Tyler Conklin (hip) is also listed as questionable but fully participated in Friday’s practice.
