Pirates-Nationals game postponed over storm threat; split doubleheader Saturday

PITTSBURGH — The Pirates postponed their game Friday night against the Washington Nationals due to rain in the forecast, the team announced at 6:02 p.m. that evening, less than an hour before first pitch. The game will be made up as part of a split doubleheader Saturday. The first game will begin at 1:35 p.m., and the second will be played at 6:40 p.m., its originally scheduled time.

Right-hander Luis Ortiz (6-4, 3.19 ERA) was scheduled to start for the Pirates on Friday. He will start the first game Saturday, while right-hander Mitch Keller (11-9, 3.88) will start the second contest.

Friday’s contest is the first game postponed at PNC Park this season. The Pirates announced that tickets that were purchased for Friday's game will be valid for Saturday’s game at 1:35 p.m. Fans will have the opportunity for exchanges, as well, by visiting pirates.com/raincheck.

 

Pittsburgh took the first game of the four-game set Thursday, defeating Washington by a final score of 9-4.
