ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Randy Arozarena apparently wanted to check out the Randy Land experience before leaving town.

Between receiving the news after the Rays’ early morning flight from Toronto that he had been traded to Seattle and plans to meet the Mariners Saturday in Chicago, the former Rays outfielder made a surprise appearance at Tropicana Field during Friday night’s game against the Reds.

Accompanied by his wife and other relatives and friends, Arozarena watched the game from the seating area beyond left field that had been known before the trade as Randy Land.

Since launching the concept last year, the Rays offered seats in two sections (141 and 143) for Friday night home games, plus Arozarena T-shirts and other promotions, including a free beverage if he homered.

After a few innings, he shook hands and high-fived fans along the walkway as he departed.
