Once the urgency of the call of the Gospel is gone, is there any point to press on?
From the writings of the Rev. Billy Graham
Q: I’ve been busy getting my education, arranging my life and gaining experience along the way to make me useful to God. I’m realizing that while these things are important, perhaps I’ve overlooked the greater reason for living. I groan when I think of all the opportunities I’ve missed in the past to tell others about the love of God. I’m afraid that I’ve missed the urgency of the call of the Gospel. Once that urgency is gone, is there any point to press on? – U.G.
A: The evangelistic harvest is always urgent! It is always easy to rationalize that the present is not the best moment for action. It will be easier tomorrow or the day after, or perhaps in the next generation. But the Bible says now is the accepted time to receive Christ; tomorrow may be too late. We are not responsible for the past generation; however, we do have our generation. God will hold us responsible for how well we fulfill the responsibilities and opportunities He puts in our pathway.
The Lord said that “to whom much is given, from him much will be required” (Luke 12:48, NKJV). We must not fail to meet the challenge of the hour that is now!
There’s a sense that something’s about to happen; things cannot go on as they are. The world’s still in the age of grace. God’s offer of forgiveness still stands. The door will one day be closed and someday it will be too late for people to receive Him as Savior. God wants to use those who are saved and following Him to proclaim the greatest news ever to reach the ears of mankind: “For God so loved the world that He gave …” (John 3:16, NKJV).
