Is it true that the Bible says more about Hell than Heaven?

on

From the writings of the Rev. Billy Graham

Q: I’ve always been opposed to the idea of Hell and never allowed my children to talk about the devil unless it was in a humorous way. Now that I’m older and watching our world become Hell on Earth, I had to reconsider my position. I joined a Bible study for the sole purpose of learning why so many people – educated people – believe in literal satanic forces and a place of doom. Is it true that the Bible says more about Hell than Heaven? – S.F.

A: No one spoke more about Hell than Jesus did, and the Hell He came to save people from is eternity separated from Jesus Christ.

Satan is very much out in the open these days. He is flexing his power of allurement, scattering the broad road with pretty – but deadly – flowers that lead to Hell. Our culture is saturated with devilish humor delivered as amusement. Much of the music glorifies the devil. Tantalizing movies and reckless television programming feeds boredom. Is it any wonder that nearly all forms of entertainment are filled with demonic trappings?

People are looking at society and considering such things. We shouldn’t look to comedians for answers. The Bible tells us the truth. Hell is a place of sorrow and unrest, a place of wailing and a furnace of fire, a place of torment, a place of outer darkness, a place of everlasting punishment. This is not a human description; this is God’s description.

God the Father does not want anyone to go to Hell. Neither does God the Son. And God the Holy Spirit doesn’t want it either. The only one who wants people in Hell is the devil. He’s whispering in your ear, saying, “Don’t make a decision for Christ now, there’s plenty of time.” The truth is that no one has plenty of time. The Bible says that today “is the day of salvation” (2 Corinthians 6:2, NKJV).
