What reassurances can I recieve before I turn my live over to Christ?

on

From the writings of the Rev. Billy Graham

Q: I need some tangible hope that if I turn my life over to Christ I will have this new heart that preachers talk about. I have to be assured before I can clean up my life to take this step. Is that too much to ask? – P.S.

A: A young woman once wrote, “Until last January I was a stranger to Jesus. I was a rebel, thief, a drunkard, a hard drug taker, an adulteress, and a self-centered, confused young woman. It seemed to me that drugs, liquor, free love, and bumming around the country would make me free, but they were all traps. Sin was the trap that led me to confusion, unhappiness, guilt, and near suicide.

“Thinking I was going to stump everyone with my cynical questions, I went to a Bible study out of curiosity. That night I became sincerely interested in the Bible. After searching and studying the Scriptures for months, John 3:16 spoke to my heart and I gave my life to Christ. I never knew that this kind of happiness could exist. God showed [me] how to love and what it feels like to be forgiven and loved. He was what I had been searching for since my early teens. Christ freed me from the bondage of sin. Being a Christian is exciting because there is always something new to learn and experience while following Christ. Now I wake up glad to see the day. He has made me new.”

Millions of people have taken the step of faith in repenting of sin by believing in the Lord Jesus and receiving Him as their personal Lord and Savior. He sends His spirit to help clean up our lives after we’ve committed ourselves to Him — it is His work, and not ours. He says, “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you” (Ezekiel 36:26, NKJV).
