Baby elephant rescued after falling into well

(UPI) An elephant calf fell down a well in an Indian village and was rescued by a team of emergency responders and local forest department officials.
Residents in the Pinavoorkudy tribal settlement, located outside the Munnar forest area in Kothamangalam, Kerala, said the baby elephant fell into the shallow well about 9:30 p.m. Monday.
Munnar Divisional Forest Officer Ramesh Bishnoi said officials from the Valara forest station responded alongside a rapid response rescue team and a Fire and Rescue Services team.
The rescuers demolished a wall of the well so a path could be created for the calf to exit the hole, Bishnoi said.
The rescue operation lasted for about an hour before the male elephant joined his herd nearby, Bishnoi said.
