'Northern Exposure' actor Diane Delano dies at age 67

Actor Diane Delano, best known to audiences as Officer Barbara Semanski in the CBS series “Northern Exposure,” has died.
She was 67.
The cause was cancer, her friend and fellow actor Stepfanie Kramer told Deadline.
Her agent said she died at home on Dec. 13 after a brief illness.
“When Diane entered any room you knew she was there!” Dennis Sevier told People. “She was full of life and loved being an actor. She will be missed.”
On “Northern Exposure,” Delano played by-the-book Alaska State Trooper Semanski, love interest to Barry Corbin’s Maurice Minnifield. She appeared in 12 episodes of the Emmy-winning comedy series, which ran for six seasons from 1990 to 1995.
Delano could also be seen as Roberta “Bobbi” Glass on the WB Network series “Popular” from 1999 to 2001, and as FBI Agent Hilda on “Days of Our Lives,” among many other television roles.
She also cropped up in “Mom,” “Mike & Molly,” “Everwood,” “Desperate Housewives,” “Six Feet Under,” “Monk,” “St. Elsewhere” and “L.A. Law.”
In movies, the actor depicted Sister Beach in the 2006 remake of horror film “The Wicker Man” and was in “Miracle Mile,” “The Ladykillers,” “A Mighty Wind” and “Out of These Rooms.” Her voice could also be heard in numerous animated projects as well, per Variety.
She received an Indie Series Award for supporting actress in “Fumbling Thru the Pieces,” a made-for-TV movie, in 2012, and in 2019 she shared the Los Angeles Film Award for best ensemble for her part in the coming-of-age drama “Relish.”
Delano’s most recent work was in “Paradise: A Town of Sinners and Saints,” a bluegrass musical comedy released in May on Prime.
Born in Los Angeles on Jan. 29, 1957, Delano caught the acting bug early, starting when she was 6.
“She was big and bold and brought her sharp wit and perfect comic timing to every role,” Kramer told Deadline. “Her earthy and raucous presence enabled her to always own the room. She was one of a kind.”
