SACRAMENTO, California — Democratic Minnesota governor and vice presidential candidate Tim Walz is coming to Sacramento on Tuesday.

Walz, who is running on California native Vice President Kamala Harris’ ticket, is expected to arrive at Sacramento International Airport Tuesday afternoon, and then speak at a campaign reception in Sacramento.

The visit is part of a West Coast fundraising swing that includes Washington state as well as San Diego, Santa Barbara, Montecito and Los Angeles.

The visit comes just less than a month before Election Day, as ballots are going out across the state.

It also comes a week after Walz appeared on the debate stage with his Republican opponent, Ohio Sen. JD Vance — an appearance that boosted Walz’s favorability with some voters, according to a CBS poll conducted after the debate.

That poll found that Walz’s favorability increased from 52% to 60% after the debate, while his unfavorability dropped from 41% to 35%. Five percent said they hadn’t heard enough to make up their mind.

A CNN poll also found Walz making gains with voters, rising from a 46% favorability pre-debate to a 59% favorability post-debate.

Vance also increased his favorables and decreased his unfavorables, according to the two surveys. The CBS survey placed his post-debate favorability rating at 49% (up from 40%), and his unfavorability at 47% (down from 54%). The CNN poll showed Vance improving from 30% to 41% favorability and dropping from 52% unfavorability to 44%.

It’s unclear whether Walz will make any other stops while in Sacramento, or whether he will meet with fellow Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom while he is in town.

The Harris campaign did not respond to The Bee’s request for comment by deadline.

While in San Diego Sunday, Walz stopped by the tony community of La Jolla, where he joked about Democrats viewing California as a fundraising bank while attending a fundraiser at the home of Qualcomm co-founder Irwin Jacobs, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.

“But that’s not how we view you,” Walz said, according to the Union-Tribune. “And let’s just be clear — California’s next contribution is Madam President.”
