DETROIT — A 16-year-old was arrested Thursday after allegedly bringing a stolen, loaded gun to Eastpointe High School, police said.

Eastpointe police officers were called at about 8 a.m. Thursday to the campus to investigate a weapons complaint, they said in a statement.

According to a preliminary investigation, security officers at the school saw a bulge in the teen's waistband when he was entering the building. The security officers asked the student to check him with a metal detecting wand but he refused to cooperate, police said.

A security guard tried to retrieve the object the teen had in his waistband and a struggle began, authorities said. The guard disarmed the student and police were called.

The teen was taken to the Macomb County Juvenile Justice Center to await charges.

Detectives said they later determined the weapon had been reported stolen.

School staff placed the school on a brief lockdown, officials said.

Investigators said they do not know why the student brought the weapon to the school.
