Auto review: 2024 KIA EV9 is EV comfort with a luxury price

When KIA enters Grasso’s Garage, it’s all about pricing, style and comfort. With the EV market in full force, the EV9 was released to satisfy consumers with big families looking for space and storage. Although our EV9 GT-Line AWD tester is really a great vehicle overall, the price tag is the elephant in the room.

With a starting price just below $74K, our long-range model showcased a 280-mile range on a full charge and had plenty of pep in its step. Tipping the scales at over 5,000 pounds, the EV9 offers immediate torque, excellent acceleration and a respectable range for the seven-seater, all-wheel-drive SUV. The EV9 platform is shared with its sibling brand, Hyundai, and their acclaimed EV, the IONIQ 6.

Our Ocean Blue GT-Line AWD tester boasted all of the EV9 standard features and added 21-inch alloy wheels, heads-up display, increased towing capacity, self-leveling rear suspension, remote smart parking. Adding $2,000 was the GT-Line second-row relaxation package, which included second-row power seats with leg support — a must if adults will use those seats! The dual 12.3-inch panoramic display was standard and easy to use and very clear to see for all ages. Dual sunroofs, Smart Power liftgate and an array of safety features were also standard.

For KIA, the EV9 is likely to be a home run in consumer satisfaction. While it is very comfortable, spacious and stylish, the storage room is what sets it apart from the rest. But with a mid-to-high $70K price range, the EV9 could price out current Telluride owners looking to go all-electric.
