VIDEO: Pug receives 'Hometown Hero' award for alerting family to electrical fire

MERIDIAN, Idaho (UPI) -- An 11-year-old Idaho pug credited with saving his family from a fire is making history as the first non-human recipient of the local "Hometown Hero" award.
Jaxson, a pug credited with saving owner Mikaela Sebree and her family by alerting them to a sparking electrical outlet that was rapidly turning into flames, was honored during a ceremony at Meridian City Hall with the bestowal of the Hometown Hero award.
The city shared photos of the ceremony on its official Facebook page.
"Certainly his actions and the actions of this dog saved that house from potentially igniting and catching on fire and going up into walls and up into the attic and caused significant damage," Meridian Fire chief Mark Neimeyer told KBOI-TV.
Jaxson was also presented with a probationary firefighter badge for his heroic actions.
"Jaxson is definitely a super pug, he deserves the hometown hero. He saved our house, he saved our lives and he saved our memories," family member Todd Lavoie said.
