White to Play

Holiday Chess School #17! White has just given up his queen that used to be on a4 until the opposing queen snatched it. However, White can still win all his material back and more. It’s a wonderful lesson on how to take advantage of an uncastled king.

This game was won by Hans Muller, who also wrote on the openings. He won this in a simul, which means he was just “walking by” playing a bunch of opponents at once and saw this. 1.Rhe1+ Be7 2.Rxe7+ Kf8 2...Kd8 3.Rexd7+ Ke8 4.Rd8# 3.Rxf7+ Kg8 4.Rfxd7+ Qxc4 5.Rd8+ Kf7 6.Ne5+ Ke6 7.Nxc4 cxb2+ 8.Kxb2 Rxd8 9.Rxd8 b6 10.Nd6 and White will now be two pieces up with an easy win. His opponent resigned after 7.Nxc4.
