Morrie Turner

Morrie Turner began drawing cartoons in the fifth grade, and went on to draw for military newspapers during his time in the service during World War II. In 1964 he began drawing full-time, and later became one of six cartoonists sent to Vietnam by the National Cartoonist Society to draw caricatures of service people. His comic strip "Wee Pals" began in 1965, and achieved national recognition three years later upon the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. During his long career, Turner has received the Anti-Defamation League's Humanitarian award, the 2000 "Sparky Award," the Boys and Girls Club Image Award, and many others. In addition to continuing his work on "Wee Pals," he works with inner-city kids in on small cartooning programs.
