NEW YORK — The lights went out on Broadway for the Flyers.

With a 6-1 loss to the New York Rangers, the Orange and Black’s season-high six-game point streak came to an end. It also ended the Flyers three-game winning streak, which tied a previous season-high set twice in November.

Things started well for the Flyers.

After goalie Sam Ersson made a shoulder save on a shot by trailing Ranger K’Andre Miller, Owen Tippett corralled the puck along the left boards and sent a bank pass around Filip Chytil to Morgan Frost. It sprung the Flyers on a three-on-one, with Frost sending a cross-ice pass to Travis Konecny. Konecny took the puck off his skate before sending a centering pass that found the back of the net off Tippett’s skate.

The Flyers came close to extending the lead two minutes later when Joel Farabee skated down and reversed behind the goal before feeding Matvei Michkov in front. Then, the Rangers had two chances to score, first by Vincent Trocheck during a two-on-one while shorthanded and the Chytil split the Flyers’ defense on a power play.

It didn’t take long for the Rangers to break through.

New York defenseman Braden Schneider carried the puck down from the point, made a nice move by the net and had his centering pass go off the stick of Egor Zamula, who was trying to tie up Reilly Smith, into the back of the net.

Adam Edstrom gave the Rangers a 2-1 lead 84 seconds later with a tip-in off of a Ryan Lindgren point shot. Despite the Flyers coming out hot in the second period, New York’s Artemi Panarin took control in the offensive zone and sent a pass to Will Borgen, who fed Miller for the snipe to give the Rangers a 3-1 lead.

Chytil made it 4-1, Rangers, in the third period when he unknowingly tipped in a Urho Vaakanainen shot. The goal came after Rangers goalie Igor Shesterkin denied Cam York with Farabee atop the crease.

Adam Fox added a short-handed empty-netter and Smith scored on a power play with 1:45 left.

Breakaways

The Flyers and Rangers each had 36 shots on goal. … Scott Laughton did not play and remains out due to a family matter. … Anthony Richard, who was called up on Wednesday from Lehigh Valley, skated on a line with Rodrigo Ābols and Garnet Hathaway. Richard was accidentally kicked in the face by Miller in the second period but stayed in the game.
