Lightning postpone home opener Saturday versus Carolina
Published in Hockey
The Lightning, who open their season on the road at Carolina on Friday night, will wait a little longer to play at Amalie Arena.
The team announced that Saturday’s home game against the Hurricanes is being postponed while the Tampa Bay region deals with the aftermath of Hurricane Milton.
After Monday’s practice in Tampa, the team evacuated early to Raleigh. Hurricane Helene had damaged players’ homes just a few weeks prior to Milton’s landfall.
“We barely recovered from the last (hurricane) before it starts again,” Lightning captain Victor Hedman said Monday. “It’s tough, but we’ve still got to prepare for Friday. ... It’s obviously hard, but we’ve got to be business when we’re at the rink. But it’s going to be worse for those people who are going to be affected.”
A new date for Saturday’s game will be announced later. For single-game ticket refunds, contact your original point of purchase.
The Lightning’s next scheduled home game is Tuesday against Vancouver.
