Super Bowl hero Mecole Hardman departs Chiefs for Packers

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Mecole Hardman Jr., who spent all but five of his 80 NFL games with the Chiefs, is off to the Green Bay Packers.
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler was first to report that Hardman is signing a one-year deal with Green Bay.
Hardman has had an eventful career with the Chiefs, who made him a second-round pick from Georgia in 2019.
He was rookie on the Chiefs’ Super Bowl team that season and won two more rings with the Chiefs, although he was injured and didn’t play in the triumph over the Philadelphia Eagles in 2022.
Hardman caught the game-winning touchdown pass from Patrick Mahomes in overtime in the Super Bowl LVIII victory over the San Francisco 49ers.
His most productive season with the Chiefs came in 2021 when he caught 59 passes for 693 yards. He has 16 career receiving and 10 rushing touchdowns during the regular season in his career and a total of four playoff touchdowns.
Hardman opened the 2023 season with the New York Jets before returning to Kansas City. Over the past two seasons he’s caught 26 passes in 18 games for the Chiefs.
In free agency. the Chiefs have re-signed wide receivers Marquise “Hollywood” Brown and JuJu Smith-Schuster to one-year deals, while losing DeAndre Hopkins, Justin Watson and Hardman. Hopkins signed with the Baltimore Ravens, Watson with the Houston Texans.
