LAS VEGAS — Pete Carroll enjoyed spending time with his family and watching his grandkids pursue their many hobbies, including football, during his time away from the game.

But deep down, he’s a coach. He wasn’t going to stay away from the sidelines for long.

“I’m chasing the passion of it. I love the game and I love being part of it,” said Carroll, who was introduced as the Raiders’ new coach in Henderson, Nev., on Monday. “I love this challenge, but even more so, I love the opportunity to do it with the people (owner Mark Davis) has assembled. We have a chip on our shoulder and we’re excited to do it together.”

Carroll, 73, is excited to work with new general manager John Spytek, who was also introduced Monday.

Spytek, 44, was hired after spending almost a decade in the Buccaneers front office. He had interviewed for general manager jobs before, but told the Raiders he wanted to be in Las Vegas.

“I can’t express how grateful and excited I am to be here and to be given this opportunity to be a part of an iconic, cornerstone franchise like this,” Spytek said. “A dream come true for me with many dreams still out there to be accomplished. This isn’t the final goal, but it was certainly one of my career goals. So grateful for the belief in me and coach Carroll to do our thing and make this organization proud.”

Raiders defensive end Maxx Crosby and left tackle Kolton Miller were among those in attendance for Carroll and Spytek’s introductory news conference.
