NEW YORK — Giants pass rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux underwent surgery for a fracture in his wrist Wednesday morning and is out “week-to-week,” head coach Brian Daboll said before practice.

The former No. 5 overall pick hurt his wrist in Sunday’s 29-20 win in Seattle over the Seahawks. He played 79% of the Giants’ defensive snaps in their first five games, recording two sacks, 12 tackles and three tackles for a loss.

His absence means a bigger opportunity for Azeez Ojulari, who has played 37% of the defensive snaps, beginning with Sunday night’s game between the Giants (2-3) and Cincinnati Bengals (1-4) at MetLife Stadium.

Boogie Basham, who has been a healthy scratch in every game so far, also might get a chance in a reserve role in Thibodeaux’s absence. Practice squad players Benton Whitley and Tomon Fox also are available as options to defensive coordinator Shane Bowen.

Star rookie receiver Malik Nabers, meanwhile, remains in concussion protocol after missing the Seattle trip but is making progress.

He was able to work on the side of Wednesday’s practice field with trainers, so that puts him on track to potentially return to the lineup on Sunday as long as he has no setbacks. But that decision is still at least two days away.

Starting left guard Jon Runyan Jr. (illness) and starting right guard Greg Van Roten (veteran rest day) also didn’t practice Wednesday. Running back Devin Singletary (groin), who did not play against the Seahawks, has “improved,” Daboll said, and will be monitored for a potential return.
