Aaron Rodgers is 'doing fine,' according to Jets coach Robert Saleh

NEW YORK — The last two weeks haven’t been kind to Aaron Rodgers.

A week after dealing with swelling in his knee, Rodgers now has a left low ankle sprain.

But Rodgers will be “fine” for the Jets’ Week 6 matchup against the Bills, according to Jets coach Robert Saleh.

“I talked with him last night, he’s doing fine,” Saleh said. “Obviously, he is a little banged up, but he feels good.”

During Sunday’s 23-17 loss to the Vikings in London, Rodgers was sacked three times, hit on 11 of his dropbacks, and blitzed on 41% of his snaps, according to NFL Next Gen Stats. In the third quarter, Vikings linebacker Jihad Ward hit Rodgers while releasing the ball, and the quarterback’s knee twisted as he went down to the ground. After the play, Rodgers was slow to get up but eventually returned to the game.

However, Rodgers, 40, was visibly in pain and limping throughout the fourth quarter. During the last two weeks, Rodgers has been hit 25 times and sacked eight times.

Rodgers struggled against the Vikings, finishing 29 of 54 for 244 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions. So far this season, Rodgers has thrown for 1,093 passing yards — 6.0 yards per attempt — and has a QBR of 49.1 — all career lows through five games.

Because of that, the Jets offensive line has been under fire for their lack of pass protection the last two weeks. Gang Green has also been unable to run the football and has averaged 50 rushing yards per game during that span.

The Jets have been without right tackle Morgan Moses, who suffered a knee injury during Week 3’s game against the Patriots. Moses wasn’t placed on injured reserve because he isn’t expected to miss four weeks.

“I felt like we’d been progressing,” Saleh said about the offensive line. “Obviously, that Thursday night game [New England], I thought we ran the ball well, protected well, all that good stuff.

“Thought we protected well the first three games of the season. I’m not discouraged, obviously I’m very disappointed with the way the last couple of weeks have gone and something that we obviously need to get fixed.”

The good news for the Jets is they are only one game out of first place in the AFC East. The Bills (3-2), who lead the division, have lost two consecutive games after their 23-20 loss to the Texans.

The Dolphins, just like the Jets, have a 2-3 record, and the Patriots (1-4) have lost four straight after winning their season opener against the Bengals.

Gang Green will host Buffalo in Week 6 in a critical matchup on Monday Night Football.

“The NFL is built for chaos,” Saleh said. “Either the sky is falling, or you’ve got Super Bowl aspirations, there’s no in-between anymore. The reality is what the standings look like now are going to be completely different at the end of the season.

“There’s so much football to be played. There’s so much, so many things that we can get better at and there’s so many things that we can continue to build on, the things that we are doing well. So, I’m not panicked, nobody in the building is panicked.

“There’s always a sense of urgency, that’s the most important thing. There’s always going to be a sense of urgency to go out there and find wins and find efficiency on offense and continue to play great defense and special teams, but Monday night’s a great opportunity to play football and do our best and try to get the result that we’re seeking.”

Jets cornerback Michael Carter II (hamstring) will be evaluated, according to Saleh. Carter played just one snap against the Vikings after suffering an injury while working out before the game.
