Tyreek Hill clears up apparent sideline tirade, trade speculation; Dolphins get good news on Odell Beckham Jr.

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — Star Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill offered his perspective on the apparent sideline tirade he threw toward the end of the team’s 31-12 loss to the Tennessee Titans on Monday night.
“It wasn’t frustration,” Hill explained Wednesday of him appearing visibly upset during the ESPN broadcast. “That was just me just motivating my teammates. … I’m in a good spot in my life. I wouldn’t refer to it as shouting.”
Hill, who only had four catches for 23 yards, said he was trying to relay a positive message to rookie running back Jaylen Wright after he went for a strong run during the Dolphins’ lone touchdown-scoring drive Monday at Hard Rock Stadium.
“I was simply telling 2-5 (No. 25, Wright) that he needs more of that. Because he had a great run there toward the end of the game, and I was like, ‘I need more of that!’ I need more of that, 2-5! No. 9 (tight end Jonnu Smith), I need more of that!’ I need more of that, 1-8 (quarterback Tyler “Snoop” Huntley)!’ That’s just me motivating my teammates. It was no ill will.
“My teammates know me. I never break down, and I never call nobody out in that moment. If I have a problem with somebody, I pull them to the side and I tell you what’s going on,” Hill said, receiving the question from reporters at his locker after the team held a walkthrough.
“We need some professional lip readers in this world,” Hill added. “Because, you know what’s crazy? My mom sent me that same video. She was like, ‘Hey, what’s going on?’ I was like, ‘Nothing. You know how I get doing football. It’s me motivating my teammates. It’s me showing my passion, and me just being a leader.”
After the Monday night loss, Miami coach Mike McDaniel, who was seen in the picture while Hill was shouting on the sideline, said he understood if Hill was upset.
“I would expect him to be visibly upset at somebody,” McDaniel said. “He’s a leader and he wanted to do everything that he could to make sure the result wasn’t that. Within the locker room, there’s a lot of guys challenging each other.”
Amid recent social media speculation that Hill could get traded by the Dolphins, the star wideout reaffirmed he wants to stay in Miami.
“I’m just focused on right here and right now,” Hill said. “We’ve got a beautiful team here, and I want to be a part of it. We’ve got a great situation here. My family loves it. I enjoy it. The weather is great. The fans are great. So, we’ve got a beautiful situation here.
“We all know the NFL is a business. Whatever happens, happens. Moving forward, I would love to be here. I love being here. I love the guys. I love my locker mate, Jevón Holland. He’s a maniac. He’s the guy. He brings me nice snacks sometimes.”
According to a league source, a Dolphins trade involving Hill has not been discussed.
Odell update
Although Wednesday’s Dolphins practice was merely a walkthrough, wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. was estimated on the team’s injury report to be a full participant had Miami gone through a full practice session.
It was also revealed officially, despite speculation of it, that Beckham’s injury that caused him to start the season on the physically-unable-to-perform list was indeed to a knee, as listed on the injury report.
Beckham is set to get his first true practice repetitions with his new team Thursday and the team will assess whether or not he can be activated off PUP list for Sunday’s game against the New England Patriots (1-3).
Aside from edge rusher Jaelan Phillips, who announced Wednesday afternoon his season is over due to his knee injury suffered Monday, safety Jordan Poyer was the only other Miami player listed as a non-participant on the Wednesday injury report. Poyer suffered a shin injury on the same play where Phillips was initially hurt.
Along with left tackle Terron Armstead and cornerback Kendall Fuller, who are advancing in concussion protocol, others listed as limited on the Wednesday injury report were: wide receiver Braxton Berrios (ankle), linebacker David Long Jr. (hamstring), running back Raheem Mostert (chest), quarterback Skylar Thompson (ribs), wide receiver Malik Washington (quadriceps) and running back Jeff Wilson Jr. (knee).
Like Beckham, cornerback Cam Smith, who has also been designated to return this week while on PUP list, was deemed to have been a full participant in a Wednesday practice.
Opposing honors
Tennessee Titans kicker Nick Folk earned AFC Special Teams Player of the Week honors for his five-field goal game against the Dolphins (1-3) on Monday night that included three makes from 50-plus.
Folk became the fifth Miami opponent in the team’s last nine regular-season games, dating back to last year, to earn a weekly honor from his conference. The others: Bills running back James Cook (Week 2), Bills punt returner Deonte Harty (2023 Week 18), Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson (2023 Week 17) and Titans outside linebacker Harold Landry (2023 Week 14).
