Star WR Davante Adams on Jets trade rumors: 'I'm locked in with the Raiders and I really feel good about this team'

NEW YORK — Since Aaron Rodgers was acquired from the Packers, Jets fans have been enamored with reuniting the four-time NFL MVP with Davante Adams.

But the Raiders have no plans to trade the six-time Pro Bowler. Adams has also clarified that he is happy in Las Vegas and isn’t clamoring to be moved.

The last saga in the Adams rumors came during the latest episode of former Broncos and Ravens tight end Shannon Sharpe's Club Shay Shay podcast, released Wednesday.

“I’m actively on the Raiders,” Adams said. What do I look like sitting here talking to other people about being on another team? That’s how I still feel about it right now.

“I’m locked in with the Raiders and I really feel good about this team and as far as I know they feel good about me. If that ever changes, if that got to a point where they weren’t feeling the same way, I ain’t done playing, so obviously we would figure out whatever we needed to figure it out.”

Rodgers and Adams played together with the Packers from 2014-21. In 2022, Adams came to the Raiders in a trade with the Packers for first- and second-round draft picks to be closer to his family in California and reunite Derek Carr, who he played with at Fresno State. Adams also signed a five-year, $140 million contract with Las Vegas.

However, Carr was released following the 2022 season, and the Raiders quarterback situation has been in flux ever since. Last season, Jimmy Garoppolo and Aidan O’Connell both started games for the Silver and Black, but both were inconsistent after the Raiders finished with an 8-9 record.

Adams, one of the stars of the Netflix series “Receiver,” was seen visibly on the sideline, saying that he needed to “get out of here before I get killed” after Garoppolo overthrew him on a pass play. Not long after that, Raiders coach Josh McDaniels and general manager Dave Ziegler were both fired, and Garoppolo was benched for O’Connell.

The Raiders released Garoppolo this offseason after just one season.

Despite the struggles at the quarterback position, Adams has averaged 102 receptions, 1,330 yards, and 11 touchdowns during his first two seasons in Las Vegas.

According to sources, the Jets contacted the Raiders about trading for Adams before last October’s trading deadline. But Las Vegas refused to trade the former three-time First-team All-Pro. Sources also continue to say that the Raiders still have no plans to move on from the Raiders as rumors continue to swirl.

On Tuesday, Adams agents Kenny Chapman and Frank Bauer called the rumors of him being traded to the Jets “baseless, unfounded speculation, and Davante is expected to be with the Raiders as there has been absolutely no trade talk — period,” according to ESPN.

Then, during last weekend’s celebrity American Century Championship golf event in Lake Tahoe, Nevada, Rodgers said he “can’t wait to play with him [Adams] … again.”

“If I’m going to be reunited with anybody, it would be Aaron — or relocated and be anywhere, it would be with Aaron,” Adams said. “There was a lot of that stuff going on last year in the media and them asking, ‘What are you gonna do about this? Are you thinking about going here’ and they talk about whatever without me even being involved in it.”

“It ended up getting all the way to the point where it got in the locker room and people was thinking I was the driving force and I’m like, y’all don’t understand man. I hate to say it like this because it makes me sound like I’m trying to put myself on a pedestal, but when you’re a certain level of player, it doesn’t have to come from you, and oftentimes, it’s not coming from you.”

Hoping to find more production outside of Garrett Wilson, the Jets added to their receiver corps this offseason. Gang Green signed Mike Williams to a one-year deal that could be worth up to $15 million. However, it is unlikely he will be cleared to begin training camp after tearing his ACL last season when he was a member of the Chargers.

The Jets also selected Malachi Corley in the third round of April’s draft. Although some Jets fans believe a trade is pending, Adams will at least be with the Raiders for now.
