DeMar DeRozan hit a series of clutch shots, helping the Kings extend their winning streak to five games with a 123-118 double-overtime victory over the Miami Heat on Monday at Golden 1 Center in Sacramento.

DeRozan scored 30 points for the Kings (18-19), who overcame a 17-point fourth-quarter deficit to improve to 5-1 under interim coach Doug Christie.

Tyler Herro scored 26 points for the Heat (17-17).

The Kings will return to action when they open a three-game road trip against the Boston Celtics on Friday.

Stat leaders

Malik Monk scored 23 points for Sacramento. Domantas Sabonis recorded a triple-double with 21 points, 18 rebounds and 11 assists. Keon Ellis added 17 points while Keegan Murray posted a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds.

Jaime Jaquez Jr. had a triple-double for Miami, finishing with 16 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists.

Injury report

Kings point guard De’Aaron Fox was ruled out for the second night in a row after missing Sunday’s 129-99 victory over the Golden State Warriors with a right glute contusion.

Fox was injured after being undercut by Jaren Jackson Jr. on a dunk attempt with 43.8 seconds remaining in Friday’s win over the Memphis Grizzlies. Fox is averaging 26.7 points, 4.9 rebounds, 6.2 assists and 1.6 steals.

Halftime report

Monk scored 15 points in the first half to help the Kings go into the halftime break with a 50-47 lead. Herro had 17 points for the Heat.

Neither team shot the ball well. Miami shot 40.5% from the field while going 5 of 16 (.312) from 3-point range. The Kings shot 40% from the field while making just 3 of 17 (.175) from beyond the arc.

Third-quarter collapse

The Kings were only down by one with four minutes to play in the third period, but that’s when the game got away from them. They were outscored 15-6 to end the third quarter and 7-0 to start the fourth as Miami opened up an 85-68 lead.

Fourth-quarter comeback

Sacramento outscored Miami 34-17 over the final 10:26 after trailing by 17 early in the fourth quarter.

The Kings got within two on a 3-pointer by Murray with 1:33 remaining and tied the game on two free throws by Sabonis with 51 seconds to go.

DeRozan missed a jumper that would have given the Kings the lead with 13.1 seconds remaining. Herro missed a floater that would have won the game at the buzzer. Extra time

One overtime session wasn’t enough, so the Kings and Heat went to double overtime. DeRozan scored nine of Sacramento’s 11 points in the second overtime, going 4 of 4 from the field with a big 3-pointer.

Up next

The Kings will play outside of California for the first time since Dec. 12 when they visit the Celtics on Friday. They will face the Chicago Bulls on Sunday before concluding the trip against the Milwaukee Bucks on Jan. 14.

The Celtics (26-10) are second in the Eastern Conference going into Tuesday’s game against the Denver Nuggets. They are led by Jayson Tatum, who is averaging 28.1 points, 9.4 rebounds and 5.5 assists, and Jaylen Brown, who averages 24.3 points, 5.9 rebounds and 4.6 assists.
