PHILADELPHIA — Joel Embiid has been fined $75,000 for “making obscene gestures on the playing court” during the 76ers’ win at the Boston Celtics on Christmas, the NBA announced Friday night.

Embiid made the “DX crotch chop” thrusting motion while lying on his back after converting a layup through contact during the first half of the Sixers’ victory.

It is a nod to professional wrestling, and has long been part of the former MVP’s celebration repertoire. He has been fined for the gesture multiple times in the past — and has also drawn public praise from wrestler Triple H.

Embiid finished Wednesday’s win over the Celtics with 27 points, nine rebounds and two assists. He has played in only nine of the Sixers’ 28 games so far this season, and is listed as questionable for Saturday’s matchup at the Utah Jazz because of a left foot sprain and sinus fracture.
