HARTFORD Conn. — UConn’s 2025 recruiting has gone international, again.
Jacob Furphy, a top Australian prospect, announced his commitment to the Huskies on Tuesday night and becomes the fourth and likely final member of UConn’s class. The news was first reported by Adam Zagoria of nj.com.
A 6-foot-5, left-handed wing, Furphy is from Tasmania and developed at the NBA Global Academy in Australia. He is described as “an excellent shooter and passer, as well as a tough and competitive player,” according to Zagoria, and chose UConn after also visiting Illinois in September.
His commitment comes after 7-footer Eric Reibe, born and raised in Germany and Switzerland, chose coach Dan Hurley and the back-to-back champions. Highly touted guards Darius Adams and Braylon Mullins, both skilled shooters, also committed.
“I believe I have the style of play and work ethic to fit in seamlessly with the Huskies and their championship culture,” Furphy said, according to zagsblog.com. “I’ve already built great relationships with the coaching staff, which I think will serve as a great foundation to my continued growth as a player.”
Furphy – not related to former Kansas guard Jonny Furphy – helped Australia win the FIBA U18 Asia Cup in September, when he shot 13 of 28 from 3 and averaged 16.8 points, 4.2 assists and 2.3 rebounds.
