ORLANDO, Fla. — Magic center Wendell Carter Jr. has agreed to a three-year, $59 million contract extension to secure his stay in Orlando through the 2028-29 season, a person with knowledge of the terms told the Orlando Sentinel on Monday night.

Carter is currently entering the third of his four-year, $50 million contract with the Magic and was set to become an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2026.

Instead, the Orlando big man lands an extension to remain with the franchise that traded for him three years ago from Chicago.

The team officially announced the extension with Carter shortly after it was first reported by ESPN and confirmed by the Sentinel.

Carter suffered a sprained left ankle in Monday’s preseason opener at New Orleans, which Orlando lost, 106-104, to the Pelicans.
