White Sox ballpark gets a rebrand to Rate Field

CHICAGO — As the Chicago White Sox pursue a new home ballpark, their current stadium has a new name.
The Sox will spend the 2025 season at Rate Field, the team formally announced Wednesday. The Sox posted a video announcing the name change on social media Tuesday evening.
The ballpark has been known as Guaranteed Rate Field since November 2016. The Chicago-based mortgage company that owns the naming rights announced its name change from Guaranteed Rate to Rate in July, a move the Chicago Tribune reported on June 22.
In August, Brooks Boyer, the Sox’s chief revenue and marketing officer, discussed the possibility of a name change for the park.
The company’s name change followed an investigative report the Tribune published on June 15 that found many former employees reported experiencing or witnessing persistent verbal abuse and a misogynistic environment while working at Guaranteed Rate.
The ballpark has undergone a handful of name changes in its 30-plus seasons.
The Sox played at new Comiskey Park from 1991 to 2002 before a naming rights agreement changed the name to U.S. Cellular Field from 2003-16.
A 13-year naming rights agreement with Guaranteed Rate was announced during the 2016 season and went into effect that November.
For more than a year, there has been buzz surrounding the Sox having interest in a new home. Since January, the attention has been on The 78 property in the South Loop. Funding continues to be a sticking point.
The team’s lease with the Illinois Sports Facilities Authority, which owns Rate Field, expires in 2029.
