For the first time under Mike Elias, the Orioles are signing a free agent to a multiyear contract.

The Orioles are signing outfielder Tyler O’Neill to a three-year contract worth $49.5 million, a source with direct knowledge of the deal confirmed to The Baltimore Sun on Saturday night.

The deal is pending a physical and has an opt-out clause after 2025.

O’Neill hit 31 home runs with an .847 OPS in 113 games for the Boston Red Sox last season. The 29-year-old has a career slash line of .246/.322/.469 — good for a .792 OPS — in seven seasons, the first six of which came with the St. Louis Cardinals.

The signing is a big swing for Elias ahead of the winter meetings, which begin Sunday in Dallas. Under former CEO and Chairman John Angelos, Elias did not sign a free agent to a multiyear contract in six offseasons as Baltimore’s general manager. In his first with new owner David Rubenstein at the helm, Elias has brought in a much-needed right-handed hitter with slugger Anthony Santander also a free agent.

The New York Post was first to report the deal, which the Orioles have yet to announce.
