Bill Clinton to rally Democrats in Orlando on 'Souls to the Polls' Sunday

ORLANDO, Fla. — Former President Bill Clinton will campaign for the Democratic ticket in Orlando on Sunday, according to the Kamala Harris presidential campaign.
Clinton will join U.S. Rep. Maxwell Frost, D-Fla., at a noon event on the final day of early voting in most Central Florida counties, often known as “Souls to the Polls” day for the large numbers of Black voters who head to voting sites directly from church.
The exact location of the event was not yet announced.
Hillary Clinton, the party’s 2016 candidate for president, will precede her husband in campaigning for Democrats in Florida with an event in Tampa on Saturday.
The Clintons are among the few national political names to hold campaign events in Florida this election cycle, a far cry from 2016 when Hillary Clinton and then-Republican candidate Donald Trump held multiple events in Central Florida and across the state.
Bill Clinton also held a rally at Rollins College that year.
Campaign events in 2020 were cut back because of the COVID-19 pandemic, though Joe Biden and Harris held smaller events in Kissimmee and Orlando. Trump held several rallies in Central Florida, including kicking off his campaign in Orlando in 2019 and in Sanford holding his first major event after testing positive for COVID in October 2020.
But Democrats have not won Florida since former President Barack Obama in 2008 and 2012, with Trump winning in both of his first two campaigns. Florida, where Republican registered voters outnumber Democrats, is not considered one of the key battleground states this year.
This year, Trump leads Harris in most polls in Florida, with the average lead at 6.6 points according to elections website 538.
The U.S. Senate race between Republican U.S. Rep. Rick Scott and former Democratic U.S. Rep. Debbie Mucarsel-Powell is much closer in the polls, however, and Central Florida has a number of competitive down ballot races including congressional and state House seats.
