Auto review: 2024 Acura MDX Type S is still a great flagship

As it has been awhile since we reviewed an Acura vehicle in Grasso’s Garage, we made room in our busy schedule to test-drive the Acura MDX Type-S. It was more than worth the wait.

First, power at the driver’s command is considerable, as Acura sticks with what works best: the 355 horsepower 3.0-liter direct injection turbo 6-cylinder engine. Paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters, the Acura MDX Type-S means business. With seating for seven passengers, the MDX has been a staple in the Acura fleet.

Our Type-S was wrapped in Liquid Carbon Metallic and came with AWD and the Advanced package, which included a slew of must-haves: styling package, navigation with voice recognition, ambient lighting, wireless phone charging, sport steering wheel and pedals, ventilated seats, remote engine start, LED fog lights and much more. These items are in addition to the standard features already outlined in the MDX. With final production located in East Liberty, Ohio, Acura is doing a great job overall with their flagship. The original MDX was released in late 2000, and 24 years later the fourth generation is still a great success.

Acura easily does a stand-up job with their entire fleet. Its vehicles are a great value to the new-car buyer and at resale. As technology has always been the brand's strong suit, which keeps their family-oriented customer base apprised. The MDX works as a people mover but also stands out for comfort, sportiness and aesthetic pleasure.
