(UPI) Firefighters in California came to the rescue of a deer found wedged upside down in the narrow space between a house and a garage.

The Oakland Fire Department said a resident stopped by Station 6 to report seeing a stuck deer while out for a morning walk.

The crew arrived on the scene and discovered the female deer was upside down and wedged in a space only about 10 inches wide.

The Engine 6 crew called for assistance from the department's Rescue 1 team, and the firefighters, along with animal control personnel, then hatched a plan for the rescue.

The team tied ropes around the deer's legs, lifted her off the ground and turned her body so she was on her feet.

The crews were then able to safely pull the deer out of the narrow space and remove the ropes so she could be returned to the wild.

"In total, the response took about 60 minutes to complete from start to finish," the fire department said.
