Art Carney Special - "What's My Line?" Spoof with Dick Van Dyke (Dec 4, 1959) RARE CLIP

Here's a real treat: a spoof of "What's My Line?" from a very rare Art Carney TV special originally aired on Dec 4, 1959 ("Very Important People"). Carney did a whole series of these specials from 1959 to 1961, but somehow they've been all but forgotten. No surprise how funny this sketch is: it was written by Sheldon Keller and legendary comedy writer Larry Gelbart (part of Sid Caesar's original writing team, later the creator of the TV series M*A*S*H and the "Oh God!" movie series starring George Burns).

Carney's take on John Charles Daly is absolutely spot on, as is Betty Garrett's Arlene Francis. And don't miss what she's wearing around her neck-- very funny! As great as SCTV's "What's My Shoe Size?" takeoff of WML was, this sketch is a whole lot closer in spirit to the real WML and its cast.

Features Dick Van Dyke (as Mystery Guest), Gloria Vanderbilt (as Dorothy Kilgallen) and David Doyle (as Bennett Cerf)
