A Retrograde Mercury's Musings

Holiday Mathis on

Is life random, or does everything happen for a reason? Is it really chaos if it weaves patterns? And is it really a pattern if you only see it in hindsight? These are the questions in the early days of this Pisces season's Mercury retrograde. Arguably, lives of purpose are more joyful, beautiful and exciting, even if we must create the meaning ourselves.

ARIES (March 21-April 19). There will be no solution that is objectively wrong or right, only one that works or doesn't work for you. Do not let the unsuccessful attempts stop you in any way. Whether they number a few or a few dozen, they lead to the breakthrough.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20). You've grown. You're more aware, more self-possessed and more intentional about what you want and don't want. You'll take this growth to the next destination, where you'll establish a foundation with your new understanding and start building.

GEMINI (May 21-June 21). You've had wondrous times with another person -- something you cherish and celebrate even while knowing that that was then. You're headed into a different kind of wondrous time just being yourself in the exciting and free world you built for yourself -- a powerful place to be.

CANCER (June 22-July 22). You have the space to create, to redefine yourself, to put all your magic into your own projects. Claim it. This is not an opportunity to be missed. Also, be sure to concentrate your efforts. It's better to go deep into what you really enjoy than to spread your attention thin.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22). You have something valuable to give. Offer it where it will be most appreciated -- whether by those who have truly earned it or those who need it most. Your generosity will have the greatest impact when shared with those who recognize its worth.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22). There's a creative way to get the space you need. Money is a factor. Maybe the answer won't come today, but you can at least start asking the question. You deserve to have freedom in your life, too.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23). While it would be hard to get through the day without being certain of a handful of things, to be certain of too much is to limit your potential. It may even be dangerous. The sliver of doubt is a portal to illumination.

SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21). The company you keep can be one of the most powerful choices you make, influencing your mental state, your energy and even your long-term success. You'll flourish around people who uplift, inspire and challenge you.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21). Three commitments -- one time-bound and two flexible -- will provide the magic amount of responsibility that makes you most productive. Also, tonight, an absolutely free endeavor will be a gateway to good fortune.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19). People can form opinions based on limited information or first impressions. Someone who once underestimated you will rethink everything as the layers of who you are and what you bring to the table become undeniable.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18). You long for peace and simplicity. The intensity of work, goals and your current emotional landscape is already a lot to navigate without layering on a draining relationship. Your precious time, energy and heart deserve respect.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20). The trail ends at a precipice. Some consider this a vantage point, and it's lovely indeed. From here, taking pictures, taking a break and taking it all in are completely acceptable choices. But don't forget: Your skills are wings. This might also be a launching pad.

TODAY'S BIRTHDAY (MARCH 15). You are many people's favorite person. Your personal recipe of insight, brilliance and kindness makes life sweeter for you and yours. More highlights: Laughter, art, and adventure shape your world as you attract kindred spirits who delight in your unique energy. A spontaneous decision changes everything. An unusual meeting sparks financial and professional gain. Gemini and Libra adore you. Your lucky numbers are: 4, 22, 29, 31 and 44.

CELEBRITY PROFILES: Seven decades after his passing, the work of Albert Einstein is more relevant than ever. For instance, astronomers recently observed a rare "Einstein Ring" around a galaxy approximately 500 million light-years away. This phenomenon having to do with the distribution of dark provides valuable insights into the expansion of the universe. Einstein's Pisces sun was accented by a broad-minded Sagittarian moon. The Neptune-ruled thinker famously suggested, "Imagination is more important than knowledge."
