Framing the Full Moon

Holiday Mathis on

The pre-show to the full moon echoes the importance of framing. The way we talk about our lives is an act of framing. A choice of frame can either harmonize with the overall picture, enhancing its beauty, or clash with it, detracting from its appeal. The alignment of the sun and Mercury in presentational Leo points out how a fitting and well-placed frame can elevate the beautiful aspects of our lives to the status of art.

ARIES (March 21-April 19). There are two paths -- one bathed in sunlight, promising warmth and familiarity, and the other shrouded in the mysterious light of the moon, beckoning with the allure of the unknown. Can't think what the next step should be? Don't worry -- your feet know.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20). There's a heightened energy to your interactions with a certain someone because you like them. Affectionate vibes always raise the stakes so there's more of a risk, but the risk is also more worthwhile. Your playfulness wins out.

GEMINI (May 21-June 21). Avoid taking things too literally as it will limit your understanding as well as your capacity for emotional connection. Before you consider the words someone is saying, you're wise to get an overall feel for the intent and go from there.

CANCER (June 22-July 22). The time to look back is when you're free to make a different kind of decision going forward. If you're stuck, key into the present. Figure out where you're pinned and what you might be able to jiggle and leverage to get free.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22). Fun calls, and you join in. You do this heartily because you know what's worth jumping into and when to abstain altogether. You also have a sensor for when the fun has hit critical mass and it's time to bail before the denouement.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22). You'll strike a contented balance in the dance between indulgence and discipline. You'll laugh with friends. You also find peace in quiet moments alone. Both are essential, both worthy.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23). There are plenty of mysteries to pursue. You could go for the unseen, though some of the best puzzles are glorious, obvious and a wonder to behold. Just because a situation is seen doesn't make it any less understandable than what is unseen.

SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21). There are those who think it's a virtue to oppose your passions, but the wiser ones work with their leanings. What would you do if you could do nothing else? You'll have the opportunity to focus.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21). You may not know why you do something, but the reasons exist. For instance, you can count on certain people to have particular responses. Some provide comfort, others an interesting argument.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19). Most things you'll deal with today can't be rushed, or rather, they can definitely be rushed but it ruins the experience for all. Things are ready when they are, not when we want them to be.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18). Whatever you call the situation, that is what its name will be. Things will proceed accordingly. Make things simple by deciding it's a blessing and sticking to that until you see the blessing in it. It won't be too long now.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20). Even when you disagree with someone, you try to see the truth and beauty in their view, if indeed there is any. You believe there always is, if you look hard enough, and this is what sets you apart today.

TODAY'S BIRTHDAY (Aug. 18). Justice is serious business, but somehow you are able to get to what's fair for all in tones of compassion, humor and goodwill. You have an inkling about what may excite and delight the people around you, and you'll often be correct about it. More highlights: One new relationship leads to five more as you pursue in good faith and good vibes. Kitchens, multitasking and managing a team will all be prevalent themes. Pisces and Sagittarius adore you. Your lucky numbers are: 1, 19, 4, 48 and 21.

CELEBRITY PROFILES: Acclaimed actor and Sundance Film Festival founder Robert Redford was born when the sun was in the last degrees of Leo and passionate Mars was also in this chivalrous part of the sky. The strongest force in his natal chart, though, is Virgo -- moon, Mercury, Venus and Neptune are all stationed in that down-to-earth, detail-oriented, nurturing and hardworking sign.
