The Gift of Lunar Squares

Holiday Mathis on

Every emotion has a benefit, even the so-called negative ones. You wouldn't have them if they didn't have the potential to serve you in some way. For instance, fear can make you more alert to detail. It can give you a better sense where to go to be safe and thrive, and it can fuel the journey with urgency, too. Lunar squares oversee the challenge to employ feelings to their best use.

ARIES (March 21-April 19). No one is always one way. Different environments will bring out changes in you. Your identity is chameleon-like now, and this is a superpower that allows you to get to know many kinds of people and groups.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20). Self-image is a construct. Since anything that can be constructed can be deconstructed, if there's a part of your self-image that's causing you pain or is simply not helping, isolate the area and start the renovation.

GEMINI (May 21-June 21). Loved ones don't always do things the way you'd prefer or the way they really ought to, and you'll tolerate some less-than-optimum behavior. Humor is like a windshield wiper -- it doesn't stop the rain but allows us to keep going.

CANCER (June 22-July 22). Knowing too much about a problem can keep a person from seeing it clearly. Solutions will come from the outside, especially from the naive. Children and newbies may have a more helpful take than those mired in the minutiae.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22). Because you want something enough, you'll harness any emotion as motivation. Nothing can stop you. Both positive and negative feelings can be equally useful, and you'll let them drive you toward the changes you desire.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22). You're adaptable, with a wide social vocabulary. If you have to change your communication style to get the message across, you will. Understanding your listener will be key.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23). There's nothing wrong with a bleak outlook -- it's necessary for someone to look at the dark side and help everyone watch out for what could go wrong. Even so, a little goes a long way. A drop of sour makes the sweet stand out.

SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21). A new fascination becomes even more enchanting. Is the attraction an enhancement of your worldview, opening doors to fresh perspectives and deeper understanding? Or is it a blockage, blinding you to other possibilities and narrowing your vision?

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21). Pity is not a particularly helpful emotion, and you'll do your best to reframe any situation that would bring it up, preferring action instead. You're bold enough to ask, "What can I do for you?"

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19). You're in the middle of a learning process, and this is the part where it gets very frustrating. You may even wonder if it's time to quit. It seems like this is not what you signed on for, but hang in there. You'll be glad you did.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18). This simple, respectful statement of independence packs a lot of power. If applied widely, it may just be the secret to the elusive aspiration of world peace: "To each his own." Or, in the modern parlance, "To each their own."

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20). To be likable, interesting and pleasant is no small accomplishment. You may not be fully aware of the thousands of negotiations between the ego and the id that occur to pull this off, but you have a sense of the energetic cost.

TODAY'S BIRTHDAY (July 29). Finally, there is congruence between the responsibility you feel toward others and the aims that serve your joy. There's a deep-rooted certainty in you as you walk in the knowledge you are loved and your value is intrinsic. More highlights: The true love that sees with the heart, and luck with games. You have nothing to prove, and yet you'll win time and again. Capricorn and Sagittarius adore you. Your lucky numbers are: 16, 32, 33, 14 and 5.

CELEBRITY PROFILES: In addition to her summer touring schedule, Martina McBride is preparing to be the lead judge on a new competition series. Like most Leos, McBride is perpetually in creativity mode, whether creating an album, cookbook, podcast or show. Like a true lioness (Leo is the sign of children), she'll confess her favorite creation is a cozy home life with three daughters and husband John McBride.
