Black could mate on g2 or h5 with the queen if only the White queen and rook weren't guarding those squares. What can you do about that?


Solution:

From Belenky-Pirogov, Moscow, 1958. Black played 1...Re1!! and it's over! 2.Qxe1 [2.Rxe1 Qg2#; Trying to find a safe haven for the queen doesn't work either: 2.Qg4 Qh1+ 3.Rxh1 Rxh1#] 2...Qh5# White, can, of course lose his queen, but no master wants to waste the time. A very creative double deflection by Black.
