I was looking through my first chess book (The Game of Chess by Golombek)and found a section on “tricks.” We’ll do some tricks this week. Here, Black surprised White in what seemed like a stable position.

Black wins a pawn and likely the game after 1...b5 2.Qc2 2.cxb5 c4 or 2.Be2 bxc4 3.Qc2 Ne4 4.0–0 Bxc3 5.bxc3 Qxc3 2...bxc4 3.Be2 Ne4 4.Rc1 cxd4 5.Nxd4 Qxa2 6.0–0 Bxc3 7.bxc3 Qxc2 8.Rxc2 Bd7 and Black has a decisive advantage due to his outside and rook supported passed pawn.
