In the game Bagirov-Kholmov, Baku, 1961, White has just played Re1 to promote exchanges so as to ease his passive position. Can you see why this was not such a hot idea?


Solution:

That exchange idea didn’t go quite as planned: 1...Rxe1+ 2.Rxe1 Re2!! and White Resigned. The attacks on the queen, rook and f2 can’t all be parried.
