NEW YORK — A game show inspired by “Friends” will hit the airwaves later this month in celebration of the 30th anniversary of the iconic NBC sitcom.
Comedian and actress Whitney Cummings will host the four-part competition series “Fast Friends,” set to premiere Dec. 19 on Max. New episodes will be released each Thursday through Jan. 9.
The streamer on Tuesday released a first look at the game show, which was filmed at the interactive “Friends Experience” exhibit in New York City. The show features competing pairs of “Friends” superfans facing off among a number of pieces from the set of the sitcom, including the famous orange couch from coffee shop Central Perk.
“From racing through Rachel and Monica’s apartment to darting across Joey and Chandler’s bachelor pad and grabbing a coffee at Central Perk, fans will re-live their favorite moments while being put to the test with trivia, puzzles and games,” reads a description of the show.
Cummings, known for appearances on “Chelsea Lately” and the stand-up special “Can I Touch It?,” previously said she was “beyond thrilled” to host the new show, referring to herself as a “longtime fan” of “Friends.”
“After 30 years, the fandom surrounding this beloved series only continues to grow and now I have the great pleasure of awarding the ultimate fans with bragging rights for life,” she said in a statement when “Fast Friends” was announced in September.
“Friends” premiered on NBC in 1994 and quickly launched stars Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer to A-list celebrity status. The show ran for 10 seasons and 235 episodes before taking its final bow in 2004.
The sitcom was voted the “greatest TV show ever” in a 2022 poll, beating out other beloved comedies like “Seinfeld,” “Frasier,” “The Office” and “M.A.S.H.”
