NEW YORK — A disco era jukebox musical about the rise and fall of Studio 54 is headed to Broadway.

Hollywood heavy hitters Robert Greenblatt and Neil Meron, known for bringing live versions of “The Sound of Music,” “Hairspray” and “Annie” to television in recent years, announced Thursday that “Studio 54: The Musical” is currently in the works.

Tony Award-winner Sergio Trujillo, whose credits include “Ain’t Too Proud: The Life and Times of the Temptations,” “Jersey Boys” and “Memphis,” will direct and choreograph the tuner to be scripted by Chad Hodge.

It promises to feature a full playlist of nightclub hits.

The musical will trace the beginning and end of the West 54th Street celebrity hot spot founded in 1977.

“Studio 54: The Musical will bring audiences past the velvet rope and into a world of unfathomable decadence, set to the thumping sound of the most iconic disco hits of the 1970s and populated by a cast of unforgettable characters, all having the time of their lives,” the synopsis reads.

The nightclub — where the likes of Andy Warhol, Grace Jones, Truman Capote, Bianca Jagger, Diana Ross and countless others star partied ’til dawn — has lived on in pop culture for decades after shuttering in 1980.

The legendary dancing, decadence and depravity of Studio 54 has spun into inspirational fodder for countless films, books and television shows.

Theatrically, it served as inspiration for off-Broadway’s “This Ain’t No Disco” in 2018.

The former opera house-turned-club is now a Broadway theater operated by the Roundabout Theatre Company, with an elite cabaret spot below.
