More than 400 applicants were mistakenly sent acceptance emails from William & Mary Law School because of a technical error in the admissions process.

Issa DiSciullo, associate dean for J.D. admissions and financial aid, said the emails were sent Tuesday, and the mistake was “recognized immediately” and clarification responses were sent minutes later.

The emails did not affect any student’s scholarship offers.

“We have contacted the applicants impacted personally apologizing for any confusion or distress this may have caused,” DiSciullo said in a statement Thursday. “We recognize the emotional impact of such an error, and we are taking immediate steps to prevent it from happening again. Our team is actively reviewing our processes to strengthen safeguards and ensure greater accuracy in our communications.”

This error has not happened at the school before, DiSciullo said, and all applicants who were affected by the emails have been made aware. Typically, the size of the law school’s first-year class can vary, but the class of 2027 — the current first-year group — welcomed with 160 students last August.
