DETROIT — The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office has denied a warrant request relating to an alleged assault by superstar rapper Nicki Minaj during a tour stop in Detroit last spring.

The assault allegedly happened on April 21, 2024 at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, the office said. Minaj performed April 20 at LCA while on tour.

Kym Worthy's office received a warrant request "in connection with an alleged assault" by Minaj on her former employee, Brandon Garrett, 40, of Sun Valley, California. But the request was denied for "insufficient evidence to prove that a crime has been committed," according to a statement Worthy's office issued Monday afternoon.

The office has made a request to the Detroit Police Department to further investigate the matter.

Maria Miller, a spokesperson for the prosecutor's office, said over the weekend that that the Detroit Police Department had sent a warrant request to the office about the allegations against Minaj, and it was being reviewed to "determine whether criminal charges will issue.”

When reached by phone Monday before the warrant request was denied, Garrett declined to comment and directed The Detroit News to his attorney, Tom Feher. Feher couldn't be immediately reached for comment.
