MIAMI — Florida’s relationship with PornHub is over.

As of Jan. 1, 2025, Sunshine State residents won’t be able to view X-rated content there anymore, thanks to a new law intended to protect minors online.

In just a few days, Florida’s stringent law will require companies with adult content on their websites to verify that all visitors are 18 years or older. The law further will require social media platforms to find and shut down the accounts of children younger than 14.

Officials from PornHub’s parent company, Aylo Holdings, confirmed it will deny access for all users geo-located in the state, Florida Politics reported. An email to the outlet said the restriction will happen “in protest of new age verification requirements.”

Pornhub appears to have already advised users about the change in plans. According to BNO News, a notification was sent to users lamenting the new law’s implementation and admonishing it as ill advised.

“Did you know that your government wants you to give your driver’s license before you can access Pornhub?” reads a screenshot obtained by the outlet. “As crazy as it sounds, it’s true. You’ll be required to prove you are 18 years or older such as by uploading your government ID for every adult content website you’d like to access.”

If you casually scroll over to the X-rated site, (please, not during work hours) you’ll receive this message:

“This website contains age-restricted materials including nudity and explicit depictions of sexual activity. By entering, you affirm that you are at least 18 years of age or the age of majority in the jurisdiction you are accessing the website from and you consent to viewing sexually explicit content.”

Will Floridians miss Pornhub? Most definitely. It’s currently in the top 20 most-visited sites in the world.

Pornhub became such a hit because it allows both professionals and amateurs alike to upload content — and charge for their services. But the raunchy site also came under fire for this very reason. Videos featuring copyrighted material as well as revenge porn and even more disturbing — not to mention illegal — content began to emerge.

Last December, in a deferred prosecution agreement with federal prosecutors, Aylo acknowledged that Pornhub hosted adult videos featuring women who were coerced into performing sex acts. The Canadian company was ordered to pay a $1.8 million fine to the U.S. government and to compensate victims.

“It is our hope that this resolution, which includes certain agreed payments to the women whose images were posted on the company’s platforms and an independent monitorship brings some measure of closure to those negatively affected,” Breon Peace, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York, said in a statement.

Floridians will just have to find a different platform to indulge their fantasies now. Several other states that can no longer partake of Pornhub’s services include Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Montana, North Carolina, Utah, Virginia and Texas.
