At least 3 dead, including suspect, in shooting at Madison, Wisconsin, Christian school

At least three people, including the suspect, were killed and and six people are injured Monday in a shooting at a Christian school in Madison, Wisconsin.
Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes said a deceased juvenile found at the scene is believed to be the shooter, who used a handgun.
Barnes said the juvenile is an enrolled student and no police officers fired shots at the scene. The name, age and gender of the juvenile were not released. They were described as a teenager.
The chief said the suspect’s family was cooperating.
A teacher and another student were also killed. At least two other students are in critical condition and four students are recovering from injuries that are not life threatening, Barnes said.
The chief said the shooting was “confined to one space” in the building, but did not say whether it was a classroom or a hallway.
Several ambulances were seen driving away from the school earlier in the day. No other information about the victims was released.
The death toll was erroneously reported as five people, including the suspect, before it was lowered to three during a press conference.
“This is an ever-evolving situation,” chief Barnes said. “So there’s a lot of work that has to be done, and we’re committed to doing that work. We just ask for your patience.”
He said the shooter’s motive was still unclear.
“Why did this happen? What do we know? What was the motivation?” Barnes said. “I do not know.”
Officers responded around 10:57 a.m. local time at Abundant Life Christian School, a private K-12 school in the city with roughly 390 students. It also shares its campus with a day care center.
Madison police said the school has been cleared.
The Dane County Sheriff’s Office is assisting the Madison Police Department, according to WMTV. FBI and ATF agents have also responded.
“I am closely monitoring the incident at Abundant Life Christian School in Madison,” Gov. Tony Evers wrote on social media. “We are praying for the kids, educators, and entire Abundant Life school community as we await more information and are grateful for the first responders who are working quickly to respond.”
Within hours of the incident, police in Green Bay, about 140 miles northeast, said they’d identified three juvenile persons of interest in relation to threatened shootings at two high schools in the city but that there was no threat to the public.
The shooting occurred less than two weeks after a man with a history of mental health issues opened fire on a group of students at a religious school in California, seriously wounding two boys.
