Police in the Pennsylvania town where alleged killer Luigi Mangione was arrested following the shooting of an UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in Midtown say they and others involved in that apprehension are receiving threats.

“We have received some threats against our officers and building here,” Altoona Police Department Deputy Chief Derek Swope told local station WTAJ. “We’ve started investigating some threats here against some citizens in our community.”

The department also confirmed to TMZ they beefed up security at the McDonald’s restaurant where a phone call from an employee led to Mangione’s arrest.

Swope said his department is taking threats against his officers and others seriously and “doing all the follow-up” possible to discover who’s behind them.

There’s been a significant outpouring of support for Mangione after he allegedly gunned down Thompson outside a Hilton hotel in Midtown last week. That includes commenters who voiced anger with the healthcare insurance industry on the Altoona Police Department’s Facebook page.

“Luigi did nothing wrong,” wrote one person who called the alleged gunman a hero.

Another commenter seeming to approve of the CEO’s death wrote the officers who arrested Mangione shouldn’t be proud of their work. Some social media users took aim at the fast food worker who called the cops.

“Whoever works at McDonald’s who did this, I hope karma comes full circle,” that commenter wrote.

Authorities offered a $60,000 award for information leading to the arrest of the person seen wearing a mask while shooting Thompson on security video.

Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman took issue with the “vile” people who support Mangione.

“He’s the a–hole that’s going to die in prison,” Fetterman told NBC News. “Congratulations if you want to celebrate that.”

The senator suggested no one is safe if shooting people in unpopular positions becomes acceptable. He also noted Thompson’s death means the victim’s two children will be raised without a father.
